Mikkey Halsted – "Success"

| May 27, 2008 | 0 Comments

A new heater from Chicago’s Uncrowned King, Mikkey Halsted.  He goes in on the No ID-produced “Success” from Jay-Z’s American Gangster album.  Something you didn’t know:  Mikkey was the first person to have this instrumental.  Someone just got murdered on their own ish…
“I’ve got a gift, everyday is like Christmas to me/Nah, I don’t celebrate that, that’s Pagan as Reagan is/Oops, I  meant Pagan as Satan is/God damn, like an atheist”

From Mikk’s Uncrowned City mixtape – coming soon.

Prime Revisits His Catalog

| May 26, 2008 | 0 Comments

Over at Prime’s Middle Movement blog, he’s taking the time to revisit his body of work spanning roughly over a decade.  He’s also uploading his albums for free download and offering candid commentary and various memories from the particular era.

Prime on “Radioactive” from Mind Over Madness:

2)Cinque (now Que Billah), Kaos, Cosmo Galactus, myself and Chips scheming up loot to record “Radioactive”…and my dumb ass wanting to do a 2nd beat by Panik. this was one of if not the first song i ever recorded. Chips still owes me his share of the studio money..ha! i had a feeling he even took a jab at me in his verse..but eh…Pray for Karma coming SOON!

Head over to Middle Movement to read the entire piece, and keep checking out his site for more albums and commentary.

Cap 1 feat. Trey Songz – "U All I Need"

| May 26, 2008 | 0 Comments

You know what I was thinking about the other day?  Do you remember when the Source (probably 10 years ago) would do the monthly segments on up-and-coming emcees and they followed around Cap, Lady Luck (formerly of Def Jam) and Lil Buddy (from Minneapolis) around for a year as they tried to get their respective careers off the ground?  I  always enjoyed that column – I believe it was called Diary of a New Jack?  Does anyone have them to scan? Next time I’m back at my parents house I’m going to dig through  my stash (yes, I saved all of my Sources from the 90’s) and try to hunt it down.  What can I say, I’m a nerd like that.

You’re probably saying to yourself, “What does this have to do with the song?”  Well, nothing really.

Lungz – "Powerful Music"

The homie Lungz is back with a brand new joint, “Powerful Music”, produced by Swift.  The track is picking up steam locally even getting spins on WGCI via Chicago’s Heavy Hitter, DJ Timbuk2.  Check out what the Glacier City movement has to offer.

Speedknot Mobstaz feat. Twista – "I'm A Speedknot Mobsta"

| May 24, 2008 | 0 Comments

A new joint from the Speedknot Mobstaz featuring the man who writes their checks.  From Mostability II: Nation Bizness, in stores on Tuesday.

From what I’ve heard so far, this is the only thing on the album that remotely resembles the sound of their first album.  And I emphasize on remotely.

Video: Kanye West – Flashing Lights (Alternate Version?)

| May 24, 2008 | 0 Comments

Someone just sent me this claiming it was the “Alternate Version” of the “Flashing Lights” video.  I’m calling shenanigans, personally.  The girl is hot, but other than that, this is kinda suspect. Obviously some kind of fan made thing.

Edit:  Apparently this is the real deal.  The first of three videos shot for this song., you know, kind of like “Jesus Walks” (where my favorite of those was the black and white clip)

Video: Ivy League's Country Club Chronicles Pt. 1

| May 24, 2008 | 0 Comments

The first edition of Ivy League’s Country Club Chronicles video series.  These will be weekly (I believe) installments of a look into the lives of Jay ILLa, Agacee and Novakane.  The first edition features appearances from Mike 100s, Ben Sity and Tony Baines outside of SubT.  Also, featured is a freestlye from the legendary lyricist Juice.

A couple things of note:
-I don’t eat at Flash Taco either (the line is always ridiculous)
-Jay ILLa addresses Popeye from the comments section who said he looks like DJ Khaled.
