2 rappers. 1 beat. No problem?
Once upon a time in the Windy City, Chicago producer SC chopped up an incredible beat – one that was such a beast, that he knew it would literally kill the game. He took this beat and serviced it to two of the cities hottest up-and-coming emcees: Mikkey Halsted & Lupe Fiasco.
So as the story goes, Mikkey took the track and immediately hit the studio to record his version. However, Lupe, knowing this track was a monster, actually paid SC for it first – thus, its placement on Lupe’s Revenge of the Nerds mixtape (Fahrenheit 1/15 pt. II).
So today is the day that Mikkey’s version is removed from vaults for public consumption.
But first, I had to drop in on SC to get his thoughts on the track, and see which version, if either, he prefers.
SC states:
“I loved both versions! Although, I never actually owned a copy of Mikkey’s version, I was aware of it because he played it for me at United Technique studio. From what I remember it was dope as shit. Lupe’s version threw me off when I first heard it – his wordplay was bananas. However, I didn’t understand what the hell he was talkin’ about. My buddy explained to me that he was “murderin’ the beat”. So, really, I like them both…wait till u hear the new shit me and Mikkey’s got comin…awww man”
So now I’m leaving it up to you guys. Which version do you prefer? Speak on it. Vote early and vote often.
Mikkey Halsted – “Homicide”
Lupe Fiasco – “Lupe The Killer”
