Big Wiz – "I Got Work"

| September 25, 2008 | 0 Comments

More heat from Wiz’s Welcome 2 L-Town.  My only question is, when are we going to get something new from The United Centa? I heard some chatter last week, but nothing concrete.

Twista – “Adrenaline Rush”

So last night I went up to the Metro to catch Mic Terror, EPMD and Twista’s benefit concert for the Humane Society. Pretty solid bill, right? Now that’s right up my alley, because if you know me, you know how I feel about EPMD. Legends! Twista? Legend!

The security at the Metro has tried to boot me from a handful of concerts over the years for filming during performances. They apparently don’t like when I do that. So I kept a low profile until Twista came on, because you know, if I was gonna risk getting the boot (getting footage for you, the FSD readers no less), I damn sure wasn’t going to miss all of the acts.

So here are some pretty solid vids of Twista, the kid Skooda Chose and the rest of the GMG. He did his laundry list of hits including his verse on “Po Pimp”, “Adrenaline Rush”, “Slow Jamz” and “Overnight Celebrity”. He even did some stuff from the first Mobstability ablum, which is a favorite of mine. I’ve still never seen him do “Overdose” though.

After the show I got to meet EPMD which was truly an honor. Big props to Mic T, Twista, Skooda, Wallace and the whole GMG. Heck, Erick Sermon and Skooda were discussing working on some tracks together – so be on the lookout for that.

Reno Chinati – "Spaceship" x "Chicago (The Windy City)"

| September 24, 2008 | 0 Comments

Two new joints from Mr. Chinati. First he brings us the “still only” video for his new track “Spaceship”, and secondly, he drops the Grant Parks-produced “Chicago (The Windy City)”.

Reno’s latest mixtape, F*ck the Industry Vol. 1, drops October 3rd here on FSD.  I’ll also add that his EP, Homemade, will be hitting the streets in October.

Agacee (of Ivy League) – "The Truth"

Agacee, one third of Chicago’s Ivy League, drops off a brand new track from a mixtape he’s currently putting the finishing touches on.  It’s mixtape season, for real.

808s & Heartbreak Dropping in November?

At least that’s what he’s reporting over at his blog:

Dude must have absolutely been on his grizzly (as the kids say) to turn this album over so quick. I know a lot of people claim they like being independent because you can “drop when you want to drop”, but if you’re Kanye, you can do that anywhere at anytime.  Juice.

Astonish – "So Gone" (Freestyle)

Don’t think just because Astonish has been relatively quiet over the past couple months that he’s somewhere relaxing and enjoying the fruits of his labor. As if! The Molemen young gun has been in the kitchen cooking up his latest mixtape, tenatively titled The Next Best Thing, which he plans to release by the end of the year.

Here’s the first look from The Next Best Thing.  Shouts to the Astonish and the whole Molemen camp.

Teefa drops by with another one featuring the white hot Ben One. Sounds like a single to me.

The wait is finally over people.  Mr. Controversy drops his debut mixtape, Top 5 Material, hosted by DJ Green Lantern – new cover and all.  Give it a listen and discuss. Looks like some solid material.

Hey, doesn't that sound like: the Twone Gabz vs. Malik Yusef Edition

| September 23, 2008 | 0 Comments

So the other day I posted that Malik Yusef record , you know, the one he did with Kanye and that guy from Maroon 5 for the Barry Obama album?  Yeah, that one.  So shortly after I posted (and once people realized FSD was up and running again), I received a few emails from anonymous sources crying afoul. A few Chicago diehards seemed to think the Malik record sounded eerily similar to a track that Twone Gabz had cut a few years earlier, with Malik himself.

The song was featured on a somewhat obscure Gabz mixtape, Do 4 Self Vol. 2, that dropped a few years ago.  The track in question featured some smooth spoken word from Malik at the tail end, and well, the song was also titled, “Promise Land”.

Hmmm.  So not believing these anonymous sources, I reached out to Twone to hear for myself.  I mean, Skooda Chose, Bump & Sly have all had songs called “Promise Land” over the past few years.    That sample has been flipped many ways, many different times.

So we’ll let the FSD readers be the judge – is this a direct shark violation of, or just a coincidence?
