Oprah & Black Eyed Peas Shut Down Michigan Avenue

| September 8, 2009 | 0 Comments

Yeah, I know the picture isn’t the greatest, but all I had was my phone and you get the point.

Oprah has completely shut down Michigan Avenue (from Wacker to Ohio, at least) today for the taping of her 24th Anniversary show.  The musical guests are the Black Eyed Peas and they are kicking off the show and are rehearsing as I type this.  I just went over there to scour the scenario, and it’s a good old fashioned zoo on the Mag Mile.  All kinds of creatures and humans down there taking part in the tomfoolery.  If anyone has the clout to shut down Michigan Avenue, it’s Oprah.   You have to applaud that.

My only question is, why would she be doing it so big for her 24th anniversary?  No one celebrates a 24th anniversary, except maybe conjoined twins (POW!).  Could we see an announcement regarding the 2016 Olympics today?  Is there some other force at work here?  2016 is written all over this pickle party.  I’m just sayin’…

Someone get the Bum-Stasher on Line One.

Rae, Jay & Jugrnaut?

| September 8, 2009 | 0 Comments

Raekwon & Jay-Z come face to face this morning at Power 105 in NYC.  One of these men is proudly showcasing a Chicago brand on their chests.

Props to Jugrnaut for having their logo featured on one of the most viewed pictures on all of the internets today.  Now that’s Church on the move.

Both Rae & Jay’s album are in stores (and online) today.  I’m not gonna say which one I like better.

Now…who’s going to see Jay at the House of Blues tonight?

Props to Crystal @ RapRadar

Video: Mike Flo Kicked Off Stage @ African Fest

| September 8, 2009 | 0 Comments

Damn, damn, damn James…

Chicago’s African Fest went down this weekend, and it featured performances from the likes of Souls of Mischief, The Pharcyde, Camp Lo and others.  One of Chicago’s homegrown acts, Mike Flo, also had a set, but it didn’t exactly go as planned.  I guess Flo’s politics irked a few people and he was subsequently booted from the stage during his performance of “Big Band”.

I’ll let Gene tell it:

Flo was given 7 minutes to perform-after performing his version of D.O.A.(which is all of 3:30) and going into the 1st verse of his banger “Big Band”, Flo was asked to get off the stage due to time limits. He was then asked to finish the show after Souls, Pharcyde & Camp Lo. This is when Flo spoke up about the politics involved in the African Fest and how if the city isn’t sponsoring the FEST(which is 20 years strong), we should really be able to hold our own and do what WE feel is best for us! THE CROWD WAS TOTALLY WITH HIM!

Video: O-Type Star Interviews Slum Village

| September 8, 2009 | 0 Comments

Jeff Baraka a.k.a. O-Type Star interviewed Slum Village at Rock The Bells Chicago, just a few short weeks prior to the late, great Baatin’s passing. This is very bittersweet, but kind of eerie.

This (6.27.09) footage was originally intended for TV, but never aired and had been archived. I was able to get it back about 2 weeks later.

Baatin’s passing (7.31.09 RIP) was an unexpected shock. It took some time, but I was finally able to get some edits and some text, and upload this movie to honor our fallen brother… long live Slum Village.
