Last Ross post for a loooong time. I promise. Here is some footage of Ricky and John Monopoly at the Teflon Don listening session at club VIBE. The event was thrown by One Off Entertainment Group, John Monopoly, Happy Lewis and 3 Deep.
In other, final BAWSE news, RubyHornet caught up with Larry Hoover Jr., Jim Allen & Gator Bradley to get statements from them and their thoughts on “B.M.F.”
Jim Allen told us, “Hoover is very remorseful for the things that he’s done as well things done through the street organization. A lot of that goes back to him and we’re trying to change that around and push peace instead of negativity.” Allen, just like Larry Hoover Jr. as well as Gator Bradley, were all taken aback by Ross’ reference. Most importantly, they felt that Ross brought up Hoover’s name out of context, linking with a lifestyle he no longer lives nor supports. Jim Allen continued, “Larry Hoover Jr. and Jim Allen are pushing peace. That’s the message Larry Hoover is pushing. When his name is mentioned in songs connected to crime, it tarnishes what we’re doing out in the street. There are people all over the country that hear Rick Ross’ music and when he mentions Hoover’s name he makes it seem that this is the life they’re living in the present, which they’re not.”
Larry Hoover Jr., Larry Hoover’s, son echoed Allen’s sentiments telling us, “[the reference] is a big deal because he didn’t contact anybody before he did it. It was the fact that he was associating his name in a bad light. He came to town and we reached out to him to right the situation… As long as everyone is a man of their word, everything is fine. He got the understanding that it’s not good to use [Hoover’s] name in the context that he used it. That’s as far away from where we are as ever.”
Bonus: Video footage of Larry Hoover Jr. going to the VIP area at Vibe to talk to Rick Ross
thats wazup sumbody finally got in contact & got the opinions of the ppl who matter..
im sorry but I have no problem with rick ross using larry hoover’s name in a song. When did ppl around here become so sensitive. larry hoover is known as a drung kingpin and thats what he will forever be know as. I understand that his son and his people are trying to change that perception but it is what it is. Do the capone family get offended whenever some rapper uses there name? Not sure but if they do theres nothing they can say about. Where was all this talk about permission when Jay-Z dropped Larry Hoover’ name on “Hate” off the BP3.
The problem is that Rick Ross used Larry Hoovers name without asking. He should’ve contacted somebody before he made it a hook. He says Larry Hoover name bout 10 times in the song. I aint trying to hear that bullshit Lil Larry talking either. This youtube video show lil larry trying to talk to Ross and getting treated by security (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyEGgd4JY0s). Then you got ross on hiphop nation acting like Larry Jr and the real gangstas in Chicago gave him the ok. He telling everybody Hoover Jr embraced me and making it sound like he approve and from the looks of the picture they took it looks just as that. He should NOT have taken that picture with that CO. Thats why Jeezy made a song called the real BMF. Nobody fucking with this fake gangsta nigga. And Ross need to find his own identity. His ass think its halloween. Everyday he somebody new. First his whole name is stolen from the real Rick Ross, then on this song he is Larry Hoover and Big Meech. I wonder who he’s going to be next
This Ross mentioning Hoover Jr on hip hop nation (http://worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshhn9PFcTyJo9Csob4h)
And there it goes…..
In so many words they saying it WASN’T SACNTIONED, was GROSSLY MISREPRESENTED, and put a bad light on Big Larry when Im sure that man is still fighting for his freedom.
Fuck Ross. And fuck all who played a part in this. Wasn’t no part of REAL NIGGA in none of that mess.
@Random Axe, But when Jay and Kanye did it on “Hate”, they didn’t use it in a compromising way. Yes, they dropped his name, but didn’t do it “negatively”
rapper watches Gangland on A &E and/or American Gangster on BET….feels like larry hoover. lol.
Agreed Mr. Andrew. It was quick and not referenced in an ugly way. They didn’t expand their movement, brand, or push their album off the Larry Hoover is a Gangster message. And they didn’t exploit our city either.
BIG DIFFERENCE.
@andrew, I understand that LH JR and associates percieve it as “negative” but its REALITY. He lived the life of drug and gang lord and Ross is shouting that out on his song. They can’t change history. I appreciate there trying to change the perception of his name and this song doesn’t help but everybody just needs to chill. Im sure in Ross’ mind he trying to give him props for living the lifestyle that he is protraying in his music. This story is overblown like chicago wind.
I understand the whole concept that the Hoover family doesn’t want Larry’s name to be used in a negative manner for the simple fact that they would someday like to see Larry come home and be able to spend his golden years with his family but let’s look at the way both Kanye and Ross mentioned his name. Rick Ross “I think I’m Big Meech, Larry Hoover” keywords “I think” “I think” you can personally “THINK” you are whoever you want to be. “I think” i’m good enough to have my music featured on fakeshoredrive but that doesn’t mean they will ever post it. Key word “think”….now let’s look at Kanye, he said “In the Chi I’m Larry”..I find that ten times more offensive because we never even see you in the Chi and you hold nowhere near the type of status or reputation Larry Hoover once had so how are you Larry? That makes me think he’s trying to give the world a perception that he’s some type of don figure in Chicago when he’s not…Personally if neither one of these artist put any type of money on Larry’s books or donated a lil something to his family they should leave the whole subject alone.
@Streets you are a little off. Kanye was referring to Chicago Larry (For the Love of Ray J) then Jay came in referring to Hoover…Hova…both are american gangstas. It was a play on words as they traded verses and in NO WAY can compare to Ross thinking he is Hoover.
^^^
I honestly don’t think he was talking about Chicago Larry. He couldn’t be, right?
But I do agree…These are two different things.
I feel what LH Jr. is sayin’ tho! He didn’t get permission and you know LH Sr. been tryin’ to change what GD was about since the 90’s! I think you all forget that LH Sr. is a political prisoner! He had all the folks gettin’ registered to vote, doing political activism in the hood. Rick Ross ain’t NEVER gonna make no moves like that! I highly doubt if Rick Ross gonna get one of his boys to run for Alderman down in Miami and make all them Triple C niggas register to vote so they can change some shit in they’re community……..
Chicago westside rapper Sincere the Realist charged with murder!!

If you gone refrence what kanye said you gotta say the whole thing which was “king like t.I. But in the chi….larry” everybody know larry hoover was the king of the chi…wasn’t using it in a bad way, and in jay-z part “hoover…hova” both gods of their time nothing bad rick ross ol faggot ass rappin bout how he flippin shit callin his self larry hoover bad, he sucks and shouldn’t even have been let in the game fuck that fat ass nigga
