A little over a year ago, I was granted an in-depth interview with Lupe Fiasco a few days prior to his then-yearly Halloween show in Chicago. We talked for well over an hour, covering numerous topics including the MTV Hottest MCs List, the status of the FNF roster, violence in Chicago and the Chicago hip-hop scene. It was a great interview. Lu was extremely passionate about everything we discussed and was so amped that I was going to post the entire audio (I felt it would’ve displayed his emotion better than a written piece) for everyone to hear. That was until I got home to begin work on the post only to find the recording device I’d used had malfunctioned and recorded the entire interview with lightening like static throughout. It was completely unsalvageable. I reached out to every engineer and studio employee in the city and they all hit me with the Flava Flav: “I can’t do nothin’ for ya, man”. It was the ultimate treatment. Had to charge it to the game.
I figured I’d get the opportunity to interview with Mr. Jaco again at some point in the future, and last week just so happened to be that time. While in town for the Holidays, and for some Lasers promo, we caught up with Lupe after a stop at WBEZ – Vocalo Radio. With FSD correspondent Laura Mitchell running point, we chopped it up with Lupe about the leaks, his thoughts on bloggers and blogsites (does he hate us all?), the MTV rant, “S.L.R” vs. “The Show Goes On”, being Principal for a day at Crown Academy, and he also shouts out his favorite Chicago rappers (some of whom will definitely surprise you). So tune in to our long overdue sit down with Mr. Fiasco.

Why play music in the background if it has the vocals? I never understood this approach. I have super hearing and it distracted me the entire time. And lets get Laura more face time for the next one please.
Great F’in interview!!!!!
good interview..the music was not distracting at all..i dont know what that other guy was talking about..thanks
This was a great interview, I agree with “Anon” though. The music in the beginning is a bit distracting and made it hard to hear him w/o strain.

So painful. I had that happen with a M.O.P. mixtape hosting (Fame KILLED it, oh my god so funny)…still hurts to think about.

Lupe Fiasco = “Fire like the fire flower. Flyer than the super feather”. The cool.
Born and raised on the west side of chicago and this brother makes me proud to have come from the same. He’s under appreciated and under valued, much love and respect.
