If you’re not in Chicago, or not attending the 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival, then perhaps you’ve missed the handful of Chicago-based advocacy groups boycotting the Sunday afternoon performance of Odd Future. About half a dozen groups have descended upon Union Park to protest the “offensive” and “violent” lyrics of Tyler and the OFWGKTA crew, including the Rape Victim Advocates, who have a both within a stones throw of the stage where the group will be performing.
But not to fear, these groups, who are typically full of hot air when it comes to boycotting hip-hop acts, seem to pop up every 10 years or so to attack an artist or group. 20 years ago N.W.A. was under fire, 10 years ago was Eminem’s time and now Odd Future have their turn. Things go in cycles…
