4. ZMoney – Rich B4 Rap/Heroin Musik
ZMoney made a huge splash in 2013 — which came as a surprise even to him. Over the fourth of July weekend, he quietly dropped two mixtapes, Rich B4 Rap and Heroin Musik — and they both slowly went viral. Z’s style and flair were inviting and felt familiar even though we were just meeting for the first time. Both projects were incredibly cohesive, and included a healthy mix of club bangers and trap music. For his first mixtape[s], he proved he could compete with his Chicago peers, and the trap stars nationwide. A lot of the material on both albums could’ve gone right to radio or video, but instead circulated throughout the streets — still the most important place to make your name early on.
