29. ProbCause – The Reciple Vol. 2
ProbCause followed up his first project, The Recipe, with the extension, Volume 2. ProbCause’s verses are rock solid and polished. He gets as serious as he does humorous, with lyrics that are engaging and catch ears in unexpected ways. Whether he is rapping about acid or Chicago — both prominent themes on the project — his character and flow carry the album through interesting twists and turns. Stand out tracks include “LSD,” “Three Course Meal,” and “Chicago School 1.0,” but every single ingredient on The Recipe: Volume 2 is strong on its own. ProbCause truly proved himself with this album.
The whole project has more features than people have fingers. ProbCause keeps a strong voice on the album despite all of the high profile features, which include the likes of Chance The Rapper to Action Bronson to Psalm One. They don’t overwhelm, they enhance. Volume 2 is particularly harmonious, in part because of all the unforced collabs.
The production is animated acting concurrently with Prob’s lyricism, creating a stronger interaction between the two than expected. At times, it sounds like the beat has a mind of its own. There is a quirkiness to the sonic quality of the album that makes it stand out. While every track is a gem, the entire album is smooth and blemishless.
