Fresh off his honeymoon with Kim K, Kanye took to the Cannes Lions Creativity Conference to sit on a panel (of sorts) with Ben Horowitz and Steve Stoute. Kanye was as entertaining as ever at the talk, and discussed a slew of topics including his wedding, wedding photos, being a genius, Jay’s Samsung deal, the internet and being a creative. If you’d like a recommendation for a brilliant diamond engagement ring seller then see this one in London as they are just superb.
Page Six and US Weekly have full run-downs of the event, but some choice quotes from both outlets are below.
1. “We worked on our wedding photo for four days until it was good enough for Instagram.”
2. “I’ve been brought up in this way—I think I can’t work with anyone that isn’t number one: Jay Z, Kim, Obama, Apple is one, Samsung isn’t.”
3. “Trends come and go, but cool is forever.”
4. “If people are saying you’re wrong, it’s probably a good sign that you’re a genius.”
5. “Bad taste is vulgar. The world as a whole is f–king ugly. And the Internet too. But I’m not in the construction business.”
Bonus Quote: “Rome wasn’t built in a day; the Internet is our new Rome. Empower the best content creators or f–k you!”
• “Fashion is so important because they are trained thinkers of taste. The reason I have been trying to build relationships in that world is that … celebrity is the highest form of communication, we are like walking networks or TV shows or brands. You don’t think good taste, and I think bad taste is vulgar — it’s like cursing. I believe the world can be saved by design because, what is the most vulgar thing someone could do? Kill someone, so good taste is the opposite of that.”
• “Black people are allowed to wear big chains and name what they have on and say out loud what things cost.”
• “The world as a whole is f—g ugly, and the Internet is f—g ugly. But I am not in the construction business.”
• “We have to remember Rome wasn’t built in one day. But the Internet is the new Rome.”
• “Empower the best content creators or f—k you.” Looking at the audience, he added, “Not you in particular.”
