Everywhere you look, BIG names.
Kanye West. Lupe Fiasco. Big Sean. Chance the Rapper. Donnie Trumpet. Even Paul McCartney?
Who to start with…
Circle the bubble next to the answer none of the above because the real MVP of the past week is Kembe X. Probably not the Chicagoan you thought, right?
Kembe X released “Crack Baby” early this week and he went straight #NoFilter — trying to improve readership amongst the Instagram crowd — throughout the entire song. “Your wounds is deep b**** your cuts is weak sauce” are just some of the lyrics ingrained in my memory. More accurately, some of the toned down lyrics I can type.
Does this put to bed the ludicrous idea that Kembe will always be overshadowed by Chance? One can only hope because he can straight-up rhyme. I want to live in a world where Kembe is held in higher regard than he is currently. He’s ridiculously good.
I won’t neglect the household names though. Kanye West teaming up with Paul McCartney is another unique way for Kanye to tell us that he can do anything he wants and s*** will work. I envision after we are all dead there will be a scene similar to Babe Ruth visiting Benny Rodriguez in Sandlot. The only difference is the script:
Kanye: “Kanye never dies kid!”
Lupe on the other hand… Probably the best first half of an album I have ever heard. Spits straight eight-minute fire in “Mural.” Then follows it up with “Dots & Lines,” which is easily the best part song of the album.
Last, but certainly not least, Surf. When is it coming out? I have no idea. How good is it going to be? Top-notch baby. The songs the Social Experiment Band has released thus far have been undoubtedly groovy and we expect more of that from the album. I’m all in for #Surf.
Big names hopefully mean big things for 2015. January has been promising. The anticipation for the future is unreal. Hang tight though, Kembe X may steal the spotlight again.
