Yes, you read that title correctly. And no, your eyes are not deceiving you. This is Chance The Rapper beat-boxing and playing ad-lib king as Alec Baldwin steps up to the microphone and kicks a few raps in front of a live audience. Actually, it was Alec performing Carl Sandburg’s storied poem, “Chicago,” but Alec and Chano put a whole new twist on it.
No, this isn’t an SNL skit. This is real life — and it all went down in Chicago this evening. Tonight was the kick off for Louder Than A Bomb’s 15th anniversary, which included a day long event that brought out other notables such as Ali Shaheed Muhammad (of A Tribe Called Quest) and Alfre Woodard. Louder Than A Bomb is the largest youth poetry festival in the world, and is run in conjunction with Young Chicago Authors — two programs which have helped birth some of Chicago’s brightest talents. The benefit event took place at the Black Ensemble Theater and was star-studded and full of surprises.
