Ahead of his headlining show at Township tomorrow evening, Westside favorite Saba stopped by the Sun Times Network office to talk about what it was like to perform with Chance The Rapper on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the city’s hip hop scene and more.
In an excerpt from the interview, Saba speaks on performing on ‘The Late Show’ with Chance The Rapper to debut “Angels,” Chance’s new single:
Chance the Rapper debuted his new single, which features Saba on the hook, on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Saba said the choreography in the performance was difficult, and they spent a lot of time learning the dance routine.
“I wasn’t even allowed to be nervous,” he said. “We (rehearsed) so much, it was almost second nature almost, being up there.”
He said he didn’t get a chance to speak with Colbert because he didn’t eat all day, so he went to lunch while others took pictures with the late night talk show host.
During the performance Saba and Chance the Rapper wore hoodies with Chicago radio stations (107.5 WGCI and Power 92).
“It felt even better landing back in Chicago,” Saba said. “After going to New York and doing this and having this big moment, coming back to the city. The moment was so Chicago – like on the stage – and I think all the fans in Chicago really felt that. It was just a beautiful moment to experience at this stage in my career.”
