Industry sources have told Billboard that Chicago star Vic Mensa has signed on with Scooter Braun for management. Braun, known as one of the most powerful young executives in the industry, has a burgeoning stable of a-list talent which includes Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Black Eyed Peas, Tori Kelly and others.
This is no doubt a powerful move on Mensa’s part, who also has Jay Z and Roc Nation in his corner. That sounds like a can’t-lose situation right there. Mensa has yet to confirm the partnership, but Braun has been vocal with his support of Mensa in recent weeks — tweeting about his There’s A Lot Going On project. Vic will continue to be co-managed by his longtime manager Cody Kazarian.
Usher and rising Roc Nation rapper Vic Mensa have signed with Scooter Braun for management, sources tell Billboard. The two artists are the latest additions to the SB Projects roster following Kanye West, whom Braun began co-managing in March. Mensa is co-managed by Cody Kazarian.
Over the last two years, Braun has been steadily building out his management base. In addition to longtime client and Usher protégé Justin Bieber, Braun represents Tori Kelly, Carly Rae Jepsen, Martin Garrix and Black Eyed Peas, among others. He and former client Ariana Grande parted ways in February, though Braun is credited with having A&R’d her just-released album, Dangerous Woman, along with Republic Records EVP Wendy Goldstein.
