This past weekend, Chicago art star Hebru Brantley had a banner outing at Art Basel in Miami — this year bigger and badder than ever. The artist debuted his solo exhibition, Theories from the Low End, on Wynwood that boasted guests such as Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Yasiin Bey, Dave East and many more. As you can see, the gallery was beautiful, and we have a full set of pictures for you to view below. For those in Miami, you can check out the exhibition through January 7th.
In his latest exhibition, “THEORIES FROM THE LOW END”Brantley explores modern folklore, changing the dynamic of American mythology. Through these works he inserts black super heroes into the predominantly white American comic history. Using some of his more well-known charactersFlyboy and Lil Momma, Brantley takes viewers on a journey through the complicated relationship between society and its ritualistic impulses. This series of paintings and sculptures challenges Hebru’s previous solo initiatives with a more direct approach to influences of human optimism and pessimism in the contemporary era
