FSD & RBSS Present: The Cool Kids, Payroll Giovanni & Femdot @ Thalia Hall – DEC 14

Art by Ben Lyon

In 2016, FSD alongside Red Bull Sound Select have brought us sold out performances by Soulja Boy, Too $hort and Playboi Carti. And for our final event of 2016 we’re bringing it back home – with a very special performance from the legendary duo, The Cool Kids. I missed them, you missed them, we all missed them — so we thought it was only right to bring them back to Chicago for our year end/holiday extravaganza. The originators, none greater. Yes, the FSD/RBSS holiday event is upon us. our first holiday party and it surely won’t be our last.

It goes down Wednesday, December 14 at the historic Thalia Hall in Pilsen. That’s right, a bigger venue, so everyone can attend. One of the biggest complaints we receive is that we host our events at venues that are too small, so we went way bigger for this one. Thank us later.

Doors open at 8pm, and the show is 18+. Per usual, it’s $3 with RSVP — $10 without. As always, early arrival is strongly suggested.

Rounding out the bill is our Detroit homie Payroll Giovanni, of the Doughboyz Cashout conglomerate. His Big Bossin Vol. 1 album with producer Cardo is one of dopest the projects of 2016, so it’s only right we bring the Detroit Bad Boy to Chicago for his first-ever show in town. You’re going to want to boss your life up for this one.

Holding it down for Chicago is Femdot, one of the most talented young artists in the city. He’s had a breakout 2016, and dropped two next-level EPs. He performed at our RBSS show in Denver, so we wanted to put him in front of his hometown crowd for the year-ender. He has plenty of surprises in store, trust that.

Finally, someguynamedty will be DJing, so please believe it will be a night to remember. He does his thing each and every time he blesses the tables, so don’t miss Shade 45’s youngest in charge.

New Project: Chuck Inglish – Texturizer

Yes, The Cool Kids are back — and we’re thrilled about that. But Chuck still gotta get these solo shots off, and today he does just that with his new release, Texturizer. Besides having the best artwork ever (shout out O’Shea!), the project is chock full of Chuck bangers. Yes, this is an instrumental release. He’s still unfuckwittable on the beats, so get down to business below.

Finding Novyon + J.KELR f/ Chuck Inglish – Whole Fade

Two of the finest talents from the Land of 10,000 Lakes are joining like Voltron to drop a collabo project next week. Yep, just like that and out of nowhere, come Finding Novyon and J.KELR (one half of the Blended Babies) who ask you to Believe In MPLS.

Finding Novyon has been making some of my favorite new music as of late (including the undeniable “Let’s Get Lit”), and KELR is a longtime friend, who I have plenty of history with him from our early days in the Chicago scene. So it’s great to see these two coming together to rep their home state with full-length new project. Even better news? It drops next week, July 21st.

Today, however, we get the world premiere of something from their opus — “Whole Fade” — which features the other homie Chuck Inglish. Yeah, and that’s on the heels of Chuck announcing the official return of The Cool Kids. It’s a big week for all involved. Glad to see all factions functioning again.

But let’s get into this “Whole Fade,” featuring J. KELR on the beats and Novy on the raps. It’s grand. Listen below.

It’s Official: The Cool Kids Are Reuniting

(yes, yes I used a 10 year old picture. because they’re taking it back)

It’s been 5 years to the day (almost) since we last heard from The Cool Kids as a group. On July 12, 2011 the duo dropped their When Fish Ride Bicycles project. Then they went their separate ways, embarking on their own solo journeys. Sure, they’d reunite for tracks here and there, and guest on each other’s albums — but no official work as a group was ever released. Fans were sad, but we always held out hope for an official reunion. Well, it appears it’s finally happening. No false starts — it’s the real deal this time. At least that’s what Chuck Inglish just took to Twitter to announce.

In the Tweet proclamation, Sir Charles stated it was time for them to get back to business and reclaim what’s rightfully there’s. I agree. They’ve been missed, and the timing is perfect to jump back in the ring reunited. Hopefully DJ VIPJ is along for the ride as well.

There’s no word on when and where they’ll break ground on a new project, but I’m excited at the possibility of a tour.

Remember them? The one’s you bit your style from? Well, they’re back. Praise the Lord.
