Interview by Leland Bonner (@LelandBFresh). Shot and edited by T.E.H.O. Media

FSD recently caught up with Chicago’s bubbling Save Money crew at their home base, the Trap Music Garage. Featuring a wide array of talented cats, the Save Money team boasts high profile artists like Vic Mensa, Chance The Rapper, Caleb James and Kids These Days — but that’s only a portion of the squad. The burgeoning collective features ‘artists’ from across the board, ranging from directors (Austin Vesley) to producers (Thelonious Martin) to graphic designers. Everyone plays a part.

King Louie Talks Chicago’s Hip-Hop Scene and More w/ XXL

XXL caught up with Mr. MUBU himself to discuss a few things including ‘Ye shouting him out on the “I Don’t Like” remix, the growing attention on Chicago’s bubbling hip-hop scene and the long-awaited Dope &  Shrimp project. Peep an excerpt below:

What do you make of everything that’s going on with Chief Keef and Chi-town’s hip-hop landscape right now?
Me and Keef, we been working together for like half a year but man, the Chicago thing, it’s kinda crazy. I’m just now realizing that a lot of the younger artists, Chief Keef and Lil Durk, they came up on my music. They were fans of my music before they got hot, so it makes me feel good. Like YP and Rockie [Fresh], I was already rocking with them and Chief Keef listened to us, so we all kinda groomed each other into the artists that we are now. The majority of us all know each other. I was just kicking it with Rockie and YP out here in the hills. So everything is just organic and all love.

Video: Birdman Speaks On Wanting To Sign Chief Keef

It’s no secret that Birdman has an interest in signing Chief Keef to Cash Money, so it was no surprise when the Number One Stunna said that he’ll “do whatever it takes to make it happen” during a recent interview with Sway on MTV’s RapFix.

“I like him, he kinda reminds me of us,” Birdman told host Sway Calloway, referencing his all-star YMCMB team. “[He's] out the streets, I think he’s swagged up and I’m definitely talking to his people and I’d like to see if we can make it pop, see if I can see if I can get him to be down with the team.”

Birdman noted that one of the things he admires about Chief Keef is that he already has his own devoted crew. “That’s what I like, it’s a movement and he’s young, I think the game needs young blood all the time,” he explained. “[We] need youngsters to keep it innovative, because they’re new and creative in their own way. I’m into the young world, that’s my thing. And I’ma do whatever it takes to make it happen.”

No word on if Keef will become the latest addition to the CMB roster, but I would expect to hear where Keef’s going to call home soon.

Video: ASAP Rocky Brings Out L.E.P. Bogus Boys Despite CPD Ban

Tonight, Chicago’s RSVP Gallery, held a show at the House of Blues, featuring Virgil Abloh’s DJ collective, BEEN TRILL, @IBHAPPY and the headliner ASAP Rocky.

If you’ve been following the site,  you’re more than familiar with the Chicago Police Department’s/House of Blues’ ban of the Bogus Boys from performing on the bill. Late last week, the venue or the CPD (it’s still not clear) deemed L.E.P.’s music too violent, and banned them for performing as part of the concert.

Well, as a big middle finger to the system, ASAP Rocky and the ASAP Mob brought out the L.E.P. Bogus Boys to close out their set. Count and Moonie absolutely brought the House (of Blues) down with their staple “Chicago N*****,”  followed by a “FUCK CPD” chant (while Rocky crowd surfed) and their new single “Benjamin Frankin.” You can’t keep a Bogus Boy down — print that.

Directly after the Bogus Boys surprised the crowd and performed their hits, Chief Keef’s GBE crew (sans Keef, of course) with Fredo Santana and SD joined ASAP for “I Don’t Like.” The grouping of the ASAP Mob, L.E.P. Bogus Boys and GBE in one place almost broke the stage, and the House of Blues shut the show down within a matter of seconds.

Speaking as a seasoned vet of rap concerts, this was far and away the best show I’ve seen thus far in 2012. Rumors swirled that Kanye West, Big Sean and Pusha T were too attend, but honestly, they weren’t needed tonight. It was that dope.

Hit the jump for “I Don’t Like”
