Mikkey Halsted & RBG Feed The People

Posted on November 2, 2009 by Andrew Barber

Hats off to Mikkey Halsted and the Uncrowned City family for continuously giving back and lending a helping hand to those who need it throughout the city.  Last weekend Mikkey took to his old stomping grounds with RBG restaurant to serve hot and healthy meals to those in the area.  Those who stopped by even received a free Halsted compact disc.  It’s better to give than receive, people…

On Saturday October 24th, Mikkey Halsted participated in RBG’s Feed The People Program, where residents of West Pullman were served hot, healthy meals. Posted up on 119th & Halsted, which is Mikkey’s old stomping grounds, passer bys were all smiles and questions as they dined on BBQ-tofu and a cheese- free macaroni and cheese courtesy of RBG and Soul Vegetarian restaurant. The RBG Environmental Restoration Agency invited the conscious minded Chicago M.C. to participate in their initiative, which was an event in support of the global day of climate action and a response to the recent violence that has been taking place in this South Side neighborhood. When asked why Mikkey chose his old neighborhood for the event, he stated “It was the least we could do after seeing the strain that the Derrion Albert incident has placed on a community that is already overwhelmed with issues of gang wars, poverty, and drugs”. RBG chairperson Zarakyah Amadiel added, “The action here is intended to bring to light the visceral, globally profound cultural cause and effect of our social and environmental malfeasance, while simultaneously expressing care and compassion with our community”.
