Apparently, Common “always had the vision” of being a leading man in Hollywood, but I can’t front, I didn’t expect him to blow the way he has. Don’t lie, when he came out with Electric Circus, you weren’t thinking a few years later he’d be starring in RomComs alongside Queen Latifah. It’s just a testament to this mans talent and perseverance over the years. You can’t ever count Rash out. Ever.
What’s even doper is that he was handpicked by the Queen for this role.
Despite his thin resume in Hollywood, Latifah said Common had the pedigree the play the part.
“There was a short list of people that we had in mind for this role, but as the character started to get a little tight and we knew what we needed I was like, ‘This guy is sort of like Common, knowing him as a friend,’ ” Latifah told MTV News. “But he had never played a leading role before and he hadn’t been tested on this level. I just had a conversion with him and he felt like he really could do it.
