In an age of immediacy, The Hood Internet gives the people what they want on a daily basis — even if they don’t know they want it yet. Marauding the pop, rap and R&B landscapes like laptop-armed alchemists, DJs STV SLV and ABX (aka Steve Reidell and Aaron Brink) drop the unlikeliest elements into their pot and make gold — from Dirty South rap to Canadian indie rock to “French Touch” electro to pretty much whatever else you got. They’ve been cooking up full song mash-ups at a breakneck pace since the spring of 2007, posting tracks to their site on the regular, and compiling the best tracks into album-length continuous mixes.
Hood Internet first worked with Kid Static by including the Yea Big & Kid Static track “Eatchyo Sandwich” (lyrics co-written by The Mae Shi) on top of the Ministry classic “Stigmata” on the Hood’s Vs Chicago mixtape in 2008.
They later paired Yea Big & Kid Static’s “Bots” with Chicago synth-poppers Hey Champ’s “Face Control” for a special Chicago-centric set of four tracks that broadcasted one per week on Chicago’s Q101 in early 2009.
After performing with Kid Static at the Mr Tastees Pop Up Jam in late 2009 (check http://vimeo.com/6483469), Hood and Static decided to work on making some tracks together, which became the two new originally produced songs on the eponymous Hood Internet & Kid Static 7″. This is a co-release on Chicago’s Whistler Records and TTD Records – both cornerstones of the Chicago underground right now. The artwork is also designed by Chicago screenprinters/designers Delicious Design League.
