Sound Familiar? Kanye West x Kendrick Lamar Edition

Posted on May 5, 2011 by Ty Howard

Hiii-gher Power.

Kendrick Lamar dropped his latest single, “HiiiPoWer”, last month and the e-streets have been buzzin’ about the J. Cole-produced joint ever since. Upon hearing the track, I knew realized that the combination of the flute and out-of-tune guitar sounded familiar. That was because Kanye found inspiration from the joint sampled in “HiiiPoWer” for the beat used in his Clear Channel Stripped freestyle. What’s the sample you ask? Sixtoo’s “Duration, Pt. 9”. I think that’s pretty dope. Turns out, Kanye & Kendrick have more in common than previously thought.
