Lupe lands on the cover for the June edition of the Chicago-based publication, which is on newsstands now.
His new album, Lasers, for all its initial success, was made under duress. During an interview, Fiasco is very matter-of-fact when discussing the release date being continually pushed back due to conflict with his record label. He’s also publicly stated that he doesn’t like everything about the album—an odd assertion to make when you need to make money from the sales of the CD.
Clearly, he’s a perfectionist. But for the rest of us regular Joes, the songs in this musical collection are easy to digest and, for the most part, offer a thought-provoking message. Consider the pro-Black hit, “All Black Everything,” which is controversial in that it imagines a world where Africans were paid a day’s wages instead of being made slaves and an America where jazz and gospel has nothing to do with struggle.
In other Lu news, let’s hope he lands on the O’Reilly Factor soon, as Bill recently called him a “pinhead” and claimed he turned down an invite to appear on the show. Lupe refuted that claim and is open to appearing on the show. Get your popcorn ready.
Update: Lupe Fiasco’s in-office interview with Jet after the jump…

First question of the interview, epic fail. Didn’t some one tell this bird that you might want to research the person you are interviewing? It’s Lupe f-ing Fiasco
