Words by Leland Bonner (@LelandBFresh)

FSD Beats sets out to build awareness of Chicago’s top up-and-coming producers — something we have an abundance of. No need to seek other cities for your sound — we have the cream of the crop right here.

We’ll be offering up new instrumentals from rising producers weekly — free of charge — for you to rock over (and so you’ll stop rapping over “Stay Schemin”). If you like what you hear, please reach out to the beatsmiths to inquire about how you can work with them in the future. Got it? Utilization is key.

For those of you who haven’t caught on yet, there’s a real renaissance brewing amongst Chicago Hip-Hop. There’s an abundance of quality of rappers, producers, videographers and anything in between that you might need. It might get a bit difficult to sort through some of the gimmicks and the fluff that the city has to offer, but thankfully you have us to guide you through.

For this installment of FSD Beats, we present Billionaire Boyscout. Originally hailing from the Dolton area just outside the Chicago city limits, Boyscout has gone from obscure local producer to somewhat of a household name after blessing French Montana with his breakthrough hit “Choppa Choppa Down”.

“Working with French (Montana) was crazy man, it’s been a long process, but I’m glad it’s building up to a major success. I feel like before Choppa Choppa Down he was more of your New York type artist, I’m not gonna say just a mixtape artist because he had classics, but as far as outside New York and outside the East Coast a lot of people didn’t know him. I like to say that I did play a nice part in helping him go more national with it.”

Since then, Boyscout has linked up with Sir Michael Rocks and The Toothpick Clique to be one on the clan’s in-house producers alongside Taylor Gang affiliate Cardo. As of late, he’s been busy working on French Montana’s debut album Excuse My French, preparing for the release of his own artists Tim Stacks and Yung Slide, launching a release from the heavy metal band Animal, and even has a few collabs in the works with A$AP Rocky and L.E.P Bogus Boys.

“I’ve been busy working man. I really just wanna start showing my versatility as a producer. A lot of people say that they’re versatile but still limit themselves to one genre. I want to eventually cross genres. When I started seriously making music I didn’t say that I just wanna do rap music. I said that I just wanted to do music period, so I think that separates me because I’m thinking deeper into music than other producers out there.”

Definitely someone to look out for. He delivers this banger as a freebie. Rappers, you know what to do.
