Video: BET’s Documentary On Chicago Hip-Hop

Posted on December 13, 2012 by Andrew Barber

BET is calling this one: Murder To Excellence: Life & Hip-Hop In Chicago. I’m not digging the title, or the fact that they only covered a certain group of artists, but it’s an in-depth piece nonetheless. Is it exploitive, or does it deserve the attention? Watch for yourself and share your thoughts. Part two and three below.

Don’t understand how this is considered “exploitive”. It’s poignant if anything. The Pitchfork video of Chief Keef at a gun range, that was exploitive. It romanticized violence and Chief Keef’s love of violence. This doc actually does us the favor of cutting through the bull and talks about Chicago’s GLARING problems. It doesn’t paint this shit as a “rennaissance” but it labels this time for what it really is. A Dark Age. Ingorance fueling ignorance.
