…And then there were four. After DJ Dynamix’s shocking scratching last week, only four DJs were left standing. And none are the DJ that FSD was paired with. Double 🙁 . That being said, the stakes continue to raise by the week, and last night’s test of skill was another doozy.
Last night, the DJs were asked remix Estelle’s new single, “Do My Thing,” which features Janelle Monae. The DJs were sent to Inner Circle’s studio in Miami (Bad Boys! Gasp!) and were paired with talented engineers to help get their original remixes tight. The song had to be totally recreated, with a new beat, new loops and new scratches. Basically a whole new track. How’d they fare? Well, we’re about to tell you.
Jayceeoh stepped up to the plate in a MAJOR way. Immediately it was apparent that he would likely win the competition. His remix was airtight, brought the house down and had the judges on their feet. Ben liked it so much that he remarked he’d like to see the label to release it. It was hard for the rest to follow up.
Loczi was up next, and although he’s the most talented producer of the bunch, and created a flawless remix, he didn’t touch the tables even once. A major fail. The judges weren’t feeling it since this is a DJ competition after all. And despite the great reworking, it was pretty clear his set received a failing grade.
Incrediboi was up next, and he was by far the most nervous of the bunch. He had the least experience with producing records, but actually pulled off a solid set. He did better than expected despite being overly worried.
Chris Karns, who seems to win the competition week after week, was also quite uncomfortable with this contest. But that’s pretty much his M.O. every week, right? And no, he wasn’t going to let the butterflies stop him from winning this competition. And of course he delivered. The set was super creative, great turntablism and he even broke out the live drum machine at the end of his set, something Kid Capri loved. He killed it.
In the end, Karns was kept, Jayceeh won, and Incrediboi was spared. Loczi was sent packing. His lack of DJing was his ultimate downfall. We have two more weeks left, and at this point, I think it’s pretty much between Jayceeoh and Karns.
We were also able to catch up with Dynamix for a parting interview after he was scratched last week. Check it:
