Jerry Azumah has many titles. NFL Star. Pro-Bowler. Entrepreneur. Sports Analyst. Philanthropist. Socialite. Model. It’s as if there’s nothing this renaissance man can’t accomplish in the city of Chicago. So when D’USSÉ, the exciting new ultra-premium cognac from Bacardi, decided to honor a resident of the Windy City, Mr. Azumah was the obvious first choice. “He embodies what the brand is all about: Boldness, passion, and inspiration” said Bacardi regional manager, Alex Argamasilla.

Jerry was a star on the Chicago Bears from 1999-2006, and had a decorated career on the field. He represented the NFC in the Pro Bowl in 2004, and in 2003, he lead the NFL in kick-off returns. Sadly, Jerry’s NFL career was cut short in 2006 due to a career ending injury. But where many athletes fade into obscurity, Azumah continued to raise his profile, becoming one of the most recognizable figures in Chicago. Conquering the business, social and philanthropic worlds.

Jerry currently sits on the board of directors for Bear Care, the philanthropic arm of the Chicago Bears; and in 2004, Azumah started his own charitable organization, Azumah Student Assistance Program (ASAP), which provides scholarships for disadvantaged students that attend private and secondary education. The program helps students in both Massachusetts and Illinois. Jerry’s annual ASAP Foundation events are some of the most touted, attended and raved about social gatherings each and every year. And as if he’s not already busy enough with his charitable gigs, Jerry is also a talking head for Fox Chicago as an NFL broadcaster.

On June 14, 2013, D’USSÉ celebrated the accomplishments and lifetime achievements of Jerry Azumah by hosting an intimate event at The Shrine, a storied nightclub in Chicago’s South Loop. The private VIP event was attended by members of Jerry’s inner-circle and other noteworthy Chicago influencers. Attendees included former NFL players Garrett Wolfe, Tommie Harris and Rashied Davis; current NFL stars Tim Jennings and Fred Evans; rapper Naledge (from the group Kidz in the Hall); Angie Taylor from KISS FM Chicago; and Olympian Aja Evans.

Jerry explains “The night consisted of watching a dancehall performance by Konshens, with some of my good friends at The Shrine. The energetic vibe was complemented perfectly by the music and the lively guests, who enjoyed signature D’USSÉ cocktails throughout the evening.”

D’USSÉ continued to flow as Jerry and his guests celebrated into the early morning hours, toasting an ultra-premium man with the ultra-premium spirit. “Jerry is one of the few athletes I know who has a personality and character off the field that rivals what he did in sports. He’s a connector and he does everything with style and grace. He’s one of those people that make any event enjoyable.” Says attendee and close friend Naledge, one half of the indie rap powerhouse Kidz In The Hall.

Azumah finished “As a cognac drinker I’ve familiarized myself with several brands over the years. What sets D’USSÉ apart is its bold yet smooth taste, so I enjoy it both on the rocks and in mixed cocktails.”
