Alex Wiley and Mick Jenkins team up again, this time around for “Own Man”. This new joint serves as the first taste of Alex’s forthcoming Village Party project. I’ll let Alex take it from here:
It’s a way more honest and personal project. I want people to feel like they really know me when they listen to something. People are listening to me now from all over the country, and when I visit their city, I want it to feel like a friend coming into town. On a basic level, I’m better at rapping and also talking about experiences. Village Party is introspective but with a different bounce. It’s eloquent.
Wiley’s Village Party drops this coming May, via Closed Sessions. Listen to “Own Man” below.
Do remember you can catch Mick Jenkins at Reggie’s on March 6th. Ty Dolla $ign, Saba and the duo of Joey Purp and Kami de Chukwu a.ka. Leather Corduroys are also all on the bill. Vic Lloyd and Joe Freshgoods will be on the ones and twos. Tickets are available for $3 with RSVP now.
