Video: Chance The Rapper Speaks On Behalf Of Jackie Robinson West

Posted on August 27, 2014 by Andrew Barber

FOX 32 News Chicago

I can’t even begin to say how proud I am of the Jackie Robinson West Little League team, who are now the current reigning US Little League World Series champs. Today the city of Chicago threw them one heck of a celebration at their home field on the Southside, which turned into a parade that marched down Halsted and ended at the city-wide rally at Millennium Park. The city truly showed up and showed out today, and the Chi’s current reigning hip-hop champ, Chance The Rapper, was also on hand to salute the team and their fans during the rally. Talk about a homecoming.

Peep the powerful moment above. Hats off to all involved.

Does any one know or care that more than half of Jackie Robinson West’s roster was comprised of kids that live well outside of Chicago? Many of these kids live in Dotlon, South Holland, Calumet Park, Lynwood, and Lansing. Accroding to Little League resideny rules kids from the afore mentioned communities should not have been elligible to participate in JRW baseball. Also, kids living in Roseland sgould have been playing for Roseland Little League. Not JRW (also a residency violation). It was fun to watch a team from Chicago and Illinois do so well in the LLWS. This said, I feel like we have all been looking at this team through rose colored glasses. These kids are not dissadvantaged. They do not come from awful communities and DO come from terrific families. In addition, there should be some serious conversation about their elligibility to participate in the LLWS as it appears they have violated the Little League residncy requirements multiple times.
