Chance and the crew did their thing tonight. But we really have to take the time to recognize everyone who made it come together. From the band (Social Experiment), to the singers (what up Jamila!) to the managers (hey Pat) to everyone else who contributed to making the magic happen.
It was as polished and perfectly executed as it could’ve been.
Chance is now an SNL alum, joining an esteemed group of A-listers and legends including Kanye, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Lil Wayne, Public Enemy, DMX and Jay-Z. In SNL’s 40 years there’s only (surprisingly or unsurprisingly) been 46 rappers to perform on the legendary show (some have performed more than once or twice.) So yes, this is very rare — any way you slice it.
For Chance’s second set of the night, he played a new version of “Sunday Candy,” which found the band slowing it down to more of a ballad. Chance, never one to hold his tongue, even took some shots at recently freed police officer Jason Van Dyke, who has been charged with the murder of Laquan McDonald. He also hints at a new mixtape. Perhaps on Christmas? We shall see.
Watch and bask in the greatness below.
