More new/old J Dilla is surfacing. Kind of. What appears to be the long-leaked Pay Jay album, has been repurposed as The Diary and will be released in its intended form on Mass Appeal Records later this year. Which is great news — as many have been waiting to hear these songs in CDQ for years.
If this is, in fact, the “Pay Jay” album then we’ve heard most of it — but we haven’t seen the final track list yet, so who knows what could be on it. Folklore says the Pay Jay album was shelved by his label, MCA, after 9/11 happened, so we’re long overdue to hear it.
Announcing: J Dilla – The Diary. We’ve been working on this one for a long time, and it was announced by the one and only Nas just minutes ago. Here is the “long lost” J Dilla vocal album created in 2002 with production from Dilla, Madlib, Pete Rock, and Karriem Riggins among others. Vocals include features by Snoop Dogg and Bilal. The album is being released by Dilla’s family label Pay Jay in April. We have an exclusive pre-order for the vinyl.
