In May of 2015, Chicago rapper Young Pappy was struck down on the North Side of Chicago, just as his rap career was beginning to take off. Despite garnering no national coverage, he was quickly becoming one of the city’s underground kings. In the year following his death, dozens and dozens of songs and unofficial projects have trickled out online and in the streets. His legend has only grown — and it continues to grow. Check the Spotify charts if you don’t believe me. His songs, likely uploaded by people outside of his camp, sit atop the local charts — and they have fore a solid year.
He was a prolific writer and recorder, and today his unreleased album 2 Cups Part 3 has just impacted, courtesy of DJ Legacy. It’s a collection of new joints and some that have surfaced. It’s a great intro to an artist who was surely on to something big. Get to know him below.
