A year ago, we told you about the amazing work Scheme a.k.a. Navarro was doing with Beats and Bars, his after school program in Little Village at Lawndale High School. Scheme recruited a group of hard-working teens from the Southwest Side of Chicago, who have written, produced, recorded and performed the new EP, The Lawndale Project — which is the second of the Beats & Bars series (you can check out last year’s album right here)
The EP includes nine brand new tracks, with Scheme at the helm helping each and every emcee and producer reach and attain their goals. This is truly beautiful and we hope the rest of the city takes notice to this great program and the awesome work he is doing. Not to mention these kids are nice with it. They did all of this within six weeks — no small feat for first timers.
The Lawndale Project was written, produced and recorded within a 6 week time span in a small makeshift studio at Little Village Lawndale High School as part of the Beats and Bars program ran by Navarro. A collaborative effort amongst a group of teens from the SW side of Chicago, the Lawndale Project embodies their realities, their truths as well as their aspirations. With production by Disrupt, CashmoneyAP (Chief Keef, Fetty Wap, G Herbo, Young Thug), Trumaine, Al Dilla and Nero; the EP becomes the soundtrack to their daily lives as well as their ambitions.
