“Grown Ass Kid” was one of the most lowkey favorites off of Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book a couple of years ago–even if it didn’t actually make the album (sample clearances rear their ugly head again). Today, that record’s producer, former J.U.S.T.I.C.E. L.E.A.G.U.E. associate Cam O’bi, has at long last let loose the first release from his debut album, also called Grown Ass Kid. Cam called in Smino for a guest appearance, and it’s honestly a match made in heaven.
Aside from working with Chance on both Coloring Book and Acid Rap, Cam also has placements on albums from Isaiah Rashad, J. Cole, and on the SZA hit “Doves in the Wind” with Kendrick Lamar. Yeah, he’s had everyone’s eyes on him for a minute now, and it looks like he’s ready to step into the light.
Besides this official first gem, Cam has confirmed that the “real version” of “Grown Ass Kid” will be saved for the album. No telling exactly when that’ll land on us, but stay tuned for more info.
