Apple will Start Making New iPhones Only from Recycled Materials

FSD Staff

Undoubtedly, technology has taken over a significant part of your lives and dominates them comprehensively. While it comes with its own set of boons and banes, it may pose a severe threat to the environment. We all know that mining is practiced mainly in the making of many electronic gadgets today. One of the world’s technological giants also outlines their dependence on mining to create Apple products regularly.

But, with the advent of new environmental problems, Apple has soon realized the importance of ending mining and transporting their journey to using recyclable materials. That is why Apple is now adamant about creating only renewable resources and safeguarding the environment for good. With such novelties, you will be able to enjoy anything you want, beginning from buying tickets to getting no deposit bonus codes True Blue casino. So, let us learn about how Apple is planning to start making new iPhones only from recycled materials in the long run. Here are some points to be discussed in this article:

  • Recyclable Materials;
  • Sustainable Goals;
  • Renewable Power;
  • It’s Not Easy, but Worth It;
  • Environmental Health.

The Big Shift From Mining to Recyclable Materials

On Thursday, Apple promised to end its reliance on mining and create products made only from recycled materials. In its yearly Environmental Responsibility report, Apple has elaborated on its efforts to build more eco-friendly products to promote a greener planet. Apple CEO, Tim Cook, has also spoken about the process of Apple’s reliability on mining and its side effects upon the environment in a product launch event.

Although making this significant shift from mining to recyclable material won’t be easy for the company, Apple is adamant about creating sustainable products to save the environment. A few years ago, Apple’s Vice President of Environmental Policy and Social Initiatives spoke in an interview with Vice News about the same. He said that he has no clue how Apple will achieve its sustainability goals for the benefit of the environment. But they are going to work on it.

“We’re doing something we rarely do, which is announcing a goal before we’ve entirely mapped out how to make it happen,” Lisa Jackson.

Apple’s Desperate Attempt to Achieve Sustainable Goals

Recently, Apple has outlined a few methods to execute its idea to implement its sustainable goals. They have curated a robot called Liam that can disassemble products and recover components. With this process at hand, it can encourage a process of recycling the materials. Apple is also encouraging its customers to return products via its Apple Renew recycling program. In a recent instance, Apple has melted down the aluminum enclosures on the iPhone 6 that helped them to create Mac mini computers.

These gadgets come in handy in several factories. It is also said to be moving to a hundred percent recycled tin solder on the main logic board of the iPhone 6s. But Apple isn’t stopping there. It is consistently trying to play with different procedures to manufacture aluminum to create an iPhone 7 enclosure with 27% less material than that used in iPhone 6. Fortunately, it has been able to emit 60% less greenhouse gas emissions too. Indeed, it is working towards its plans as expected.

In a recent report, Apple has stated how they created their smartphones and aimed at the most sustainable environment. It stated: “Traditional supply chains are linear. Materials are mined, produced as products, and often end up in landfills after application. Then the process starts over, and more materials are extracted from the planet to curate the latest products. We believe our goal should be a closed-loop supply chain, where products are created using only renewable resources or recycled material,” said Apple.

Methods to Encourage Renewable Power

Apple is also relying on its suppliers who offer diversified components to create their devices. This is also the same place where issues with conflict minerals and environmentally detrimental production methods are curated.

However, Apple has stated that seven major suppliers have successfully promised to power their Apple production comprehensively using their renewable energy by the end of the following year. In a recent report, Apple has also mentioned that they were adamant about introducing four gigawatts of renewable power online. This was going to be an important initiative that would significantly help in decreasing their manufacturing footprint.

It’s Not Easy, but Worth It!

In recent years, Apple has been striving hard to become one of the world’s largest environmentally friendly businesses and break out of the stereotypical criticisms that most electronic industries are expected to tolerate. Generally, such criticisms are showered upon by various reputed campaigners and analysts. Recently, Verisk Maplecroft wrote a critical report. It stated that there was enough warning laid on the conflict materials that refer to the production of tin, tungsten, and tantalum as human rights abuses.

“A recycled smartphone will guide Apple to boost loyalty amidst eco-friendly consumers and eventually decrease their production costs by using a few of the components from older phones,” Francisco Jeronimo, research director for European mobile devices at IDC, told CNBC by email.

An Effort to Preserve the Environmental Health

All the latest iPhones by Apple are using recycled tins in their logic board and cover glass. The best part about these is that they are using only 32% biobased plastic. This was revealed by Apple when they were at an unveiling event of their smartphones. With this news, the company has been able to introduce effective measures to mitigate the effects of its products on the environment. Although it is hard for Apple to try and avoid mining new materials from the planet, the company is doing its every step of the way.

This requires the company to go the extra mile and search for effective ways to utilize recycled sourced materials. So, Apple is working towards creating devices that are environmentally friendly and long-lasting for its users. Eventually, this will also prove to be advantageous for users and their overall health. Even the iPhone XS is built to last long enough without any hindrance.

Final Words about the Apple Industry

A few years ago, the introduction of the iPhone X was high in popularity, although it cost a fortune to its users. Statistics suggest that Apple had been successful in selling nearly 41.3 million iPhones in its latest quarter. This was even better than its previous year when it had only been able to earn 41.03 million. Apple had stated that iPhone X went on to be their best-selling iPhone in a long time. It has also successfully accelerated the average selling price of Apple’s devices by nearly $700. So, it is clear that Apple is head-strong about bringing an environmentally friendly means to create its electronic devices. In the upcoming years, we will be able to see more of it.
