Kanye’s TV Show “Too Hardcore” for HBO?

Posted on October 4, 2008 by Andrew Barber

MTV News is reporting that “The Black Larry David’s” long-rumored HBO comedy series, which was to be modeled after Curb Your Enthusiasm, was a bit too hardcore for HBO’s target demographic.

Writer and Producer Larry Charles was quoted as saying:

“It was really good, but … I think it was too hard-core for HBO. Also, HBO’s management shifted. HBO doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to black shows, and I felt like that may have had something to do with it also,” he told the site. “I don’t see a lot of shows about that experience at all. This was very entertaining and we showed it to a lot of people. People gave it a very good response, and it seems to be on the shelf right now. The management has shifted at HBO so we’re waiting to see.”

Hmmm…  I think we all know what that really means, and I don’t think I need to explain any further. Can’t you just hear the HBO exec who shot it down:

“We gave them The Wire!  What more do they want?!? Okay, okay, we’ll put some more rappers on Entourage for them to keep them temporarily satisfied.  Debbie, do we still have that Saigon guys number?”
