Today, we bring you an Ace of Base remix. Something I never ever thought I’d type in a Fake Shore Drive post. But here we are, and we’re happy to do so. Chicago supergroup, Monakr, decided to shake things up a bit by dropping their very own electronic-ish remix of the Ace of Base hit — which you probably remember from 1994 if you were alive then. If you walked the planet in those days, you definitely heard it — it was unescapable. A massive hit, etc.
Monakr give us a modern, electronic leaning cover of the iconic Ace of Base song — sung by the illustrious frontman Matthew Santos. So why did the forward-thinking 4-piece go back in time to flip this, um, classic. Well, they tell us:
“Ace of Base had some really melancholy and thoughtful lyrics that got lost for us in the catchy pop production. We wanted to take a slightly darker pass at it, and this remix was born.”
Look for Monakr’s debut album to impact later this year. For now, though, serve the Base below.
