What? You thought SaveMoney Summer 16 was a joke? Never that. The onslaught continues today with the announcement of Towkio’s new EP, Community Service 2, which is set to drop on July 7th — that’s a week away if you’re keeping score at home.
The seven song outing was recorded alongside Rick Rubin at his Malibu sanctuary Shangri-La, which is enough to make this writer’s head explode. Yes, Towkio is down with Rick Rubin. Try that one on for size.
Features on the EP include fellow SaveMoney members Vic Mensa and Joey Purp, as well as production from Smoko Ono, Garren, Mr. Carmack, Peter Cottontail and Kenny Segal.
Today we get “Tear Drop,” which was produced by Garren, who had some amazing work on Purp’s iiiDrops and Chano’s Coloring Book. This is that classic Chicago-sped-up-soul-sample-sound at it’s finest.
