In a city full of hustlers and dealers, an epidemic has blossomed into a culture that has come to regard hustling as a way of life. Detroit has a long history of crime syndicates — before there was a Big Meech there was Raymond Peoples, a notorious kingpin who flooded the streets of Detroit with narcotics. Artist Mack Nickels has embarked on a collection of projects dedicated to some of Detroit’s most influential street legends, his last, Tee & Meech, was a true Detroit classic.
Today, Mack is resurrecting the spirt of Raymond Peoples by paying respect with his new project entitled The Ghost of Raymond Peoples. In true Detroit fashion, Mack informs his listeners to the street tales of Raymond Peoples. Mack, who I consider to be a true aesthete, articulates in ways that his subordinates cannot express. His life experience provides the street knowledge of the game, in which the tracks come out mature; reflected by a retro injected sound in ways that only Mack Nickels can do. Check out one of the best to do it out of Detroit.
