GLC x Curt@!n$ x Rakaa – The Roadhouse (Prod. by DJ Babu)

Posted on February 17, 2011 by Andrew Barber

Closed Sessions and Ruby Hornet are dropping their Closed Sessions: ATX project on March 15th, 2011 with Decon, and here we have the first leak.  This definitely isn’t a lineup I would’ve ever imagined, but that’s part of the fun.  Too bad they didn’t get Swayze for the adlibs.  *crickets*

Hit the jump for a breakdown of this particular session as well as a DL link.

This track was recorded on Friday with CurT@!N$, Rakaa, GLC, and Babu all working in the studio together. It was a busy day for Babu, who setup shop and recorded a series of tracks with artists such as Naledge, Fashawn, Scheme, Buff1, Emilio Rojas, and more. This track came together towards the later part of the day, and started off as a GLC and Rakaa collaboration, who were both writing to the production when CurT@!N$ made his first appearance at the mansion. As we looked on, CurT@!N$ got into his own zone, and started pacing in circles in the living room, rapping to himself, sketching the track out line by line in his head. After a while, he laid his verse and really captured the whole house from the very first line of “Lock your windows and close your doors,” which coincidentally is the intro that Bun B did on “Happiness Before Riches”. CurT@!N$ managed to capture exactly what was going on at the moment weaving in references to Dilated Peoples, shouting out Babu, Rakaa, and GLC, as well as RubyHornet and Closed Sessions. From there, the song was a smash as GLC and Rakaa both fed off the energy and nailed their verses as well, with Rakaa supplying the title of the song via the first line of his verse. It just feels like one of those old Wild West Roadhouses where anything can go down.
