Sound Familiar? L.E.P. x Rick Ross Edition

Posted on April 26, 2011 by Ty Howard

What do L.E.P. and Rick Ross have in common you ask?

War’s “Slipping Into Darkness”.

Maybe I’m late, but after randomly listening to Don’t Feed Da Killaz, Vol. 3 & Ross’ Teflon Don I discovered that. Maestro (producer of L.E.P.’s “Darkness”) flipped the same joint that T-Pain used in Ricky’s “Veteran’s Day”. Dope, huh? Things like that happen more often than one would think, but I was shocked that no one had really noticed this particular coincidence. As always, I thought it was cool and figured I would share. Feel free to listen for yourself below.

War- Slippin’..

L.E.P. – Darkness

L.E.P. Bogus Boys – “Darkness”

Rick Ross – Veteran’s Day

Other songs that sampled War’s Slippin’ Into Darkness (from WhoSampled.com):

Be Down by Geto Boys (1988)

Crushing With Quickness by Ms. Nikki D (1989)

Rock Dis Funky Joint by Poor Righteous Teachers (1990)

    Lifestyle as a Gangsta by 415 (1991)

Self-Styled Wisdom by Poor Righteous Teachers (1991)

    Slippin’ N Tha Darkness by G-Slimm (1994)

    Sippin on a 40 by Eazy-E (1995)

Looking Through Darkness by Guru feat. Mica Paris (1995)

Slippin’ Into Darkness by Funky Aztecs feat. 2Pac (1996)

I Miss You (Come Back Home) (Remix) by Monifah feat. AZ (1996)

    Capítulo 4, Versículo 3 by Racionais MC’s (1997)

I’m Good at Being Bad by TLC (1999)

Veteran’s Day by Rick Ross feat. Lil Wayne and Birdman (2010)

…And I’m pretty sure Ja Rule sampled it in Blood In My Eyes feat. Hussein Fatal (5:06~5:10) but it’s not acknowledged at any other site, not until now, anyway. But it’s good to see rappers in the ’10s still ain’t afraid to get funky with it, D.O.C.

Ross needs to be trying to sign LEP, on the real. That lil roster they have is cool, but them guys don’t make records and self sufficient moves like LEP.
