Complex Previews Common’s The Dreamer, The Believer

Posted on October 26, 2011 by Andrew Barber

Last week Com Sense was in NYC to play his highly anticipated ninth album, The Dreamer, The Believer (produced entirely by No I.D.) for a select crowd of media and industry insiders. The homie Rob Kenner from Complex Magazine was in the house and gives us a blow by blow of each and every track. Let’s hope the Chi get’s a chance to sample this work, as sources in his camp tell me this is his best record to date.

“Sweet”

Produced by: No I.D.

Complex says: Don’t let the title deceive you—there’s nothing sugary about this track. As Common said just before pressing play, “This one might make you wanna fight.” During a recent visit to Haiti, Common shot a video for the song, which may go down as the most aggressive record he’s ever made. Lord knows what inspired these lyrics of fury, but when Common played “Sweet” for an old friend in Chicago, his friend said, “I been waiting 20 years to hear you do some shit like that.”

It appears the only two features are Maya Angelou and James Fauntleroy. There’s also another special guest that is to appear on this album, but I’m not sure I can disclose that info at this time. You’ll just have to wait until December. Ha!
