Remember rap album commercials? A lot do, but the new agers have largely come up in an era without shows like Rap City and Yo! MTV Raps, where the album release commercials would air. They used to be one of my favorite things to catch in between commercial breaks of Joe Clair and Big Lez. But in 2012, it’s kind of a last art. I guess there’s no “kind of” about it, it’s pretty much dead. What were once :30 views into an album you had yet to hear, are now straight-to-YouTube affairs that drop long after the album leaks.
But Yeezy and the G.O.O.D. camp carry on tradition with their :30 spot for Cruel Summer, which drops next Tuesday.
