Inspectors Shut Down Site of Waka Flocka Concert Shooting

Posted on March 11, 2010 by Andrew Barber

ABC 7 is reporting that World of Skates, the Gary venue where 9 teens were shot last weekend following a Waka Flocka concert will be closing.  But not due to the shootings, but due to sprinklers.  Riiiight.

March 11, 2010 (GARY, Ind.) — Building inspectors have closed a northwestern Indiana skating rink where nine teenagers were shot as they left a weekend concert.

Officials told the owner of World of Skates in Gary on Wednesday that it can’t reopen until a sprinkler system is installed. State fire and building code inspector Tom Stephens said outlets were overloaded, causing the potential for a fire.

Owner Andre Ivey estimated 800 teens attended the Friday night rap concert and said there were no troubles inside.

The shooting happened in the parking lot, where the youths ranging in age from 14 to 18 suffered various non-life threatening injuries. Police said the shooting remained under investigation.
