And then there was one. After a grueling 10 episodes and countless battles and competitions, DJ JayCeeOh outlasted the competition and is now SMIRNOFF’s Master Of The Mix 2013. Over the course of the show, JayCeeOh defeated close to a dozen other DJs from across the nation to grab the championship belt.
On the MOTM finale, JayCeeOh was able to edge out other stellar DJs such as Chris Karns and Incrediboi, who proved to be worthy contenders. The final competition was to come up with your own original set and craft your best one-man show. The DJs were able to design a stage set, create a light show, and come up with their own unique performance and mix. Karns and Incrediboi gave JayCee a strong run for his money, but it was JayCee’s unique mix, light show and song selection that edged out the competition. Oh and it didn’t help that he included models with bottles.
In celebration of JayCeeOh’s big win, we caught up with the globetrotting DJ to talk about the series, discuss his plans for the future and much more.
FSD: Congrats on the big win. Did you know all along that you were going to win the competition?
JayCeeOh: I knew my chances were good coming into the show. Throughout the season I felt confident and knew I had a good chance to take it home but as it got down closer and closer to the finals it became a lot harder to know for sure.
FSD: Throughout the program, what DJ did you see as your biggest competition?
JayCeeOh: Chris Karns for sure was my biggest competition throughout. The dude is talented and I always knew we would be going head to head throughout the competition. Chris was a DMC World Champion and is a very fierce competitor.
FSD: What judge were you most scared of?
JayCeeOh: Ben Maddahi for sure because he judged you very critically and from a record executive prospective. You always had to watch out for Ben because he wouldn’t hold back and would be brutally honest every week.
FSD: What was your favorite competition?
JayCeeOh: The finale because I got to spin my own style of set that represents me the best and what I’m trying to do as a DJ. Also, it was pretty sick because I won. Also, I really liked the team challenge because I got to work with Chris Karns. We had a lot fun and got to knock it out together without being enemies. I mean we never were enemies throughout the show. We are homies and are cool but for the team challenge we didn’t have pressure of competing against each other for once which was nice and we actually got to work together.
