Jahzel – John Stockton / Radio Raheem

When I saw the title of this, I was hoping it was a dedication to the white guard with the short shorts who could dish like no other. But you know when you’re getting some newness from Jahzel, it’s going to go much deeper. He’s the polar opposite of shallow [insert John Stockton shorts joke here]. But man, gotta give credit where credit is do, because I love this sample and how Jah flipped it.

His latest endeavor is an ode to growing up on the Northside of the Chi and the trials and tribulations he and many others face.

“John Stockton / Radio Raheem” is the third single from Jahzel’s album, The Wake Up, which releases early 2015. Speaking on the album, Jahzel says: “My overall message is to show those who may be unaware of the struggles of the inner city youth, through stories of personal experience, the complex decisions that must be made on a daily basis, which are also restricted by limited options. Many of the youth and young adults like myself mean well, and desire for what we all desire for, happiness. It’s just not always that easy.”
