If you follow me on Twitter, then I’m sure you’ve either seen me shouting out or conversating with DJ CottonHere, my mella from Tennessee, whose YouTube page is the hottest thing smokin’ if you’re into throwback hip-hop clips from BET, MTV and elsewhere. Cotton’s page has brought back a lot of forgotten memories and serves as a hip-hop time capsule from 1996-2006, when he was heavily taping some of your favorite episodes of Rap City and the like. It’s definitely worth a stroll scroll through if you have the time. In fact, Cotton dropped that Baby and Weezy kissing clip a few weeks back that set the internets ablaze, so you know his library is deep (and not with just man-kisses!)
Cotton’s going to be upping some lost and forgotten Chicago content over the next few weeks, and today he unleashed a couple from MTV’s Diary of Kanye West, which ran all of the way back in 2004, right after The College Dropout dropped and didn’t flop. I mean, this was something I’d completely forgotten existed. The clips follow Yeezy (with Don C in tow) around Chicago as he visits students and later the Polo Mansion on Michigan Ave., where he’s helped by the lady who still works there now. Job security!
