I’ve been waiting to hear 3rd Dimension’s new project since premiering their video for “Oracle” earlier this year and today, the wait is finally over. The Madison, WI collective returns to FSD today to debut their latest effort — Limits.
The LP, which is mostly produced by 3rd Dimension’s own Burn$ampson, is nine-tracks deep and features guest spots from Supa Bwe and Ted Park. You can listen to Limits right here, right now. That’s not all though. I also caught up with 3rd Dimension for a quick Q&A to talk a bit about the project, what went into creating it and more.
Read my Q&A with 3rd and listen to their new album, Limits, below.
First off, just tell me a little bit about the project and what it means to you.
LIMITS is our 5th official LP release and out of all of our projects this is the one that finally cultivated the sound that we’ve been working to get to for the few years that we’ve been taking music seriously. We’ve learned so much and made so many connections since our last release ‘Things Have Changed’ and LIMITS is the sonic representation of all that development. As usual the majority of the tape was produced by the one and only Burn$ampsoN and his talent backed by our evolving understanding of what makes a “good song” is what truly makes this tape the best one yet. What’s crazy is that we’re only getting better so this tape is like a stepping stone for what we got planned next.
How long were you all working on it?
The songs on this project kinda range in age. Some songs are up to a year old maybe even older while others were made really recently like in the last month or so. We chose these specific tracks because they best represent where we are as artists and in life. We feel like the songs flow together well and really show the fans who’ve been rockin with us for a while that we are showing growth and depth.
How do you feel about the current hip hop scene in Wisconsin and what do you hope to change about it or add to it with this project?
The hip hop scene in Wisconsin is finally gaining the respect and recognition that we felt it deserved years ago. Listening to homies like Rashaun, or Mike Regal or Trapo and seeing those guys getting noticed regionally and nationally has motivated us and we’re just hoping to do the same for the people around us; whether it be a little Homie in the city hoping to get some exposure or one of the guys we grew up with who doubted the talent, we just want to show people that this dream is possible and this growth is possible with the right work ethic and an environment that allows artists to shine.
Favorite song from the project and why?
Probz of 3rd: This is tricky because I can listen to this whole project backwards and forwards but my personal favorite would probably have to be “Violence” because of the way that it came together. It took us months of disagreeing and rearranging to come up with the final product of that particular song but when everything was said and done it came out fire as fuck…
The rest of the group consensus seems to be “Violence” as well, track one of 3rd Dimension’s Limits LP. Listen to Limits below.
