XXL Magazine just released the cover(s) for their December issue which features their (now) annual series of the “Top 10 Freshman” or “Hip Hop’s Class of ’09”, which I take to indiacte the most buzzing young gunners in the industry. If you’ll remember, last year the cover featured the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Plies.
This year not one single Chicago artist is featured on this three version cover. Wale, Asher Roth, Charles Hamilton, Blu, Kid Cudi, Curren$y, Mickey Factz, B.o.B. Cory Gunz and Ace Hood all received the gusto this year.
What do you guys think? Were there any “new” (at least on a national level) Chicago artists who were buzzworthy enough to grace the cover of the esteemed mag, or do you think all 10 of these new jacks are more deserving? I think you know how I feel, and if it was up to me, there would probably be 5 or 6 guys from the ‘Go on here. But I guess I’m biased.
Did Chi City deserved to be shut out like this? Does this cover matter? Why is water wet? I just kind of thought we’d have at least one cat on there.
The other covers after the jump…
