Video: L.E.P. Bogus Boys on MTV’s Mixtape Daily

Andrew Barber

Congrats to the The G Count, Moonie and Infared Music who find themselves on MTV’s Mixtape Daily to kick off the week.  They’re invading MTV’s website as well as MTV Jams today, so if you’re plugged in with the network be sure to tune in (they’ll be airing all day).

MTV came to Chicago to preview L.E.P.’s upcoming mixtape, Don’t Feed The Killaz Vol. 3, and tour various locations throughout the city.  They share a handul of new songs and well as follow the Boys through their Chicago stomping grounds.   Tune in and toast to their haters.

Big shouts to Shaheem Reid.

Sidenote: Parts of this segment were filmed by Brandon “N2ition” Riley.  Good looks on that!

Street Kings: L.E.P/ Bogus Boys

Holding It Down For: Chicago

Mixtape: Don’t Feed Da Killaz, Vol. 3

Real Spit: The Low End Professionals, L.E.P for short, have been wreaking havoc in Chicago’s underground-rap scene for over a decade. The respect that the Count, Moonie and the under-house-arrest Bigg Rugg have in the streets translates much farther than the Windy City. The night the Mixtape Daily cameras caught up with Count and Moonie, they were partying with Wale, and the group has recorded with the likes of Jim Jones and Young Dro over the years.

For the Bogus Boys, though, industry co-signs are cool, but they care most about the love in the ‘hood.

“We been together 12 years,” Count said, standing next to Moonie in front of the now-closed (but still legendary) Cabrini-Green projects. “We been knowing each other for a long time. This is my brother. We had a couple of stop-and-go’s, but we been doing this music for some time. We at our best right now.”

Some members of the L.E.P crew have been killed in the street, others sent to prison, but the music hasn’t stopped.

“The story needs to be told,” said Count, whose flow is reminiscent of Rakim’s. “Our streets are a little bit different from where y’all at. Y’all need to know about Chicago.”

“Get in tune,” Moonie advised. “We’re gonna take y’all on a journey through the city. [The mixtape] represents the streets of Chicago. It’s something new. Something that hasn’t been touched on. That’s what we’re bringing to y’all. Real stuff. We embody the whole situation in Chicago, letting y’all know what’s going on.”

Joints to Check For

» “Chicago N—as.” “I like that song a lot because we get to rep Chicago,” Count said. “Plus, we got a hot video for it. Our music is a melodic sound. We got music for the ladies and of course we got music for the streets that everybody from the streets relates to.”

“It’s painting a big picture, you know?” Moonie added. “If you not from Chicago and you listening to the song, you could understand everything about Chicago. When I was writing it, I was just in a Chicago state of mind.”

» “Air ‘Em Out.” “This is gonna scare the game,” Moonie promised. “We airing out people’s dirty laundry. It’s gonna set everything out. We don’t care. We the hottest. The track is featuring Alley Boy. Alley Boy, what’s up? We be going back and forth in the A. I’m not gonna get into what we doing. But we represent the same struggle; him from Atlanta, us from Chicago.”

“We’re both from the street. Real recognize real,” Count agreed. “He’s doing the same thing we doing: independent. We’ll be back down there, and their pass is good up here.”

i agree with unoriginal and i dont think they have alot of talent to make good original music however i respect their hustle and with the right producers and managment they can make a little show money but i dont think they will blow up like how they make it seem but i can say that ive seen a improvement in their craft as the years went by and just heard that track with moonie n ray j on 92.3 on da late night and it sounded like a nice radio joint but it wasnt anything SPECIAL. bottom line is they need to really make this mixtape live up to all this hype and im honestly doubting them but ill be sure to give it a chance but they need to do it soon..

  • CTC

This CTC CRAZY & we wanted to let LEP know they killing the streets the right way. Cats can hate, but that's sum internet ish…talk all that outside when cats can be touched, otherwise congrats!! CTC CRAZY!!

  • Anonymous

i respect the hustle and grind, but i cant get with these dudes. i mean musically their not my style but thats not even my problem, they come off way too cocky on some real asshole stuff and theyre out here trying to force people to be fans. i remember some dudes i kno said they went to a show and they were there and they wouldnt talk to none of their fans and when they hit the stage they were actin all sorts of wild. calling out people in the crowd who werent feeling it talking shit about them and saying how they were the best out and fuck everybody who doesnt think so. the thing was that i heard everybody there actually wanted to see what they were about but as soon as they started acting like that they lost people. i mean im cool with the bragging and all but these dudes really need to step off the pedestal they think theyre on and be humble and the game will treat them right. definitely not trying to hate though as i wish them success and hope they do make it, but i dont want them to be acting like theyre the greatest people to ever live and shit

  • Anonymous

    ^^
oh and to the dude above me, nah drake and wayne arent original by any means but lets be honest neither are these dudes, check somebody like elzhi for some real and by real i mean from the streets for the streets and just plain sick hip hop

  • Anonymous

Good look L.E.P, and to the rest of ya'll negative commenting ass niggas WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING????? Not a damn thing!!! Jesus Christ can come down to earth and support L.E.P and ya'll HATING ass niggas a say Jesus ain't shit. If ya'll don't like these niggas don't listen to them simple as that. Don't try to put another muthafucka down. So what they cocky, if they wasn't then ya'll be saying they some pussy or some bitches. A nigga can't win without losing! Aint nobody original, everybody talking bout the same thing MURDER, MONEY and HOES!!!

  • LOL

Somebody said “They not known outside the city” Nigga Here’s Music Industry 101. Labels check for people who are known in their city and region. L.E.P is doing the right thing…they are branding themselves in their city/region while promoting for everyone else. Once you gain your city everything else is down hill. L.E.P has a real good chance of getting a deal. Once that happens they will be the ones representing YOUR CITY (By the way I’m not from Chicago). This is from an outside perspective on a lot of you Hatin Ignorant Never Did Nothin Wit Your Life Ass Niggas. If you seriously don’t like their music, GOOD. But to sit up there and disrespect for any reason besides that is just ignorant. This is the reason there aren’t any Chicago Niggas in the Game. Oh yeah, Kanye & Common…them niggas don’t represent ya’ll like that. Why? Because they know their city is full of haters like the bitter niggas postin on this blog. Much love to L.E.P and their movement. It’s sad when your own city don’t wanna get behind a REAL Movement. Get behind these niggas and help them build momentum to help Chicago vs Wishin for their Demise. I’m Up.
