Video: L.E.P. Bogus Boys feat. Kobe – Shotty

Posted on September 14, 2010 by Andrew Barber

Directed by Da Visionaryz

For their latest clip, the Bogus Boys linked up with fellow Chicagoan, Kobe, who has been making a lot of noise recently for his vocals on Eminem’s “Talkin’ 2 Myself” off his Recovery album.

The video, which was directed by Da Visionaryz, takes a close look into the paranoia that accompanies fame and fortune and the pearls of success. They got me noid, they got me noid, but I ain’t paranoid.

Don’t Feed Da Killaz Vol. 3 drops on Halloween, so be prepared.

Just wondering… since the mixtape is the new demo now-a-days, how are these brothers making money? ’cause if they’re still on the block on some illegal shit to maintain the rep they have built up they will end up with Bump. I just dont see how a mixtape that I can download for free is going to A. put money in these brothers pockets and B. sign a major deal. Since rappers dont rap over old beats for mixtapes anymore, with all the money LEP spent on producers for a mixtape, by the time the album comes around the money done ran out… unless you depend on the label money and advances, but then you are forever endebted. Good song, but i’m not sure about the business since behind all these mixtape efforts and the overall objective, the dots are just not connecting right…. a new mixtape means you are not signed yet, and although that is a traditional and albiet old way to measure success, it still means a lot. Chicago rappers forever have had talent but no real business sense. Shout Out to Psycho Drama for never selling out, yea, they are not signed but they saw what the industry was on; there is a payoff. But LEP got the swag, the image… all that shit the industry is thirsty for, but “shotty” will not get radio play for shit, especially considering they are Chicago rappers and all the gang/gun violence as of late. If they were from ATL they would have been on… that money gone run out soon, just hope you don’t run into a bank for resolve, get your business sense up.

IN business you allow your stronger more established businesses to pay for your developing business. companies will operate at a loss for years before they become successful. by investing into your brand the goal is that over time your products noteriety becomes worth the investment resulting in a profit. Its not about getting a deal. Its about building a brand. The long term payoff is where the dots add up… and the perception as 2 whats being spent….. I dont believe its in the best interest of a good businessman to go broke 4 any 1 particular endeavor. Knowing these cats the way I do. I can assure u thats not the case here….

@patrick, The music industry is not like opening a small business, or any business for that matter, where you take a loss before you see a gain; If you are you use your own money its a gamble because at the end of the day you could have a wonderful product, but with lackluster promotion/publicity/advertisint/noteriety/exposure you are dependent on the market and fans to purchase yoru product. LEP makes music for the streets, the streets are not going to purchase their music legit, where is money being made? I just see money spent. Lets be real, unless you have been in the industry since an early teen/twenty something, there is no market for a mid-30 artist on a first effort Album, odds are against these brothers, just check the facts. Money will not ultimately be their meal ticket as MC’s, mabye behind the scenes. I support Chicago and our artists, and I support LEP, but honestly, another mixtape is somewhat depressing news, Same for Mikkey, Sly etc. Chicago gets no love from the industry… only when artists try to prove their street credibility and need a plug do we get due respect; musically, overall, with all the talent we have… and I can think of 150+ artitst off the top of my head, we get no love. Caint knock LEP’s hustle, but will it amount to record sales and earned money? BUT I do support these brothers, don’t get me wrong… and I will pay the $15… if the album ever drops, but until then, download for free= FAIL

chief we appreciate you knowledge but if your in tune with the industry you have to understand branding that what LEP does ,more then that you right chicago artist get no love but these dudes im sure could have taking a deal but ,i think their brand is growing but lets be funky, its the djs fault that more people from the chi are not on,also how old is ross,or maybe gucci jeezy age has nothing to do with it .your knew until you come out .have your heard of wiz khalifa or currency well these dudes have mixtapes or maybe coolkids but with lep underground push and there more intense want to succed they are on the right path also they have more leader ship then bump j did i ,think but your more of a nay then a yay but i really dont think you support them and psycho drama should ???have taken a deal if they had a chance beacuse you yell their name but probably wont support them because real fans are just that fans ,one thing for sure they rep chitown even when most dont . also they are not the cause of violence people understand music and as long as its poverty their music will be relevant nobody want to hear hear people talk about shit with no substance but not all shoot them up either so my conclusion is chief your a under cover hater you momma told if you have nothing good to say shut thee fuck up . good job lep the village checking in.

Maybe Im biased – I’ve been rocking with LEP for about 15 years now, I see the grind up close, there are times when I don’t agree with the decisions they make but Im not involved in their business, so my understanding of those decisions is from the outside looking in. But Cheif here is where you are wrong the music industry IS just like operating a small business! The problem with Chicago cats is that we assume that we need a record company to hold our hands to help us achieve our goals. Thats bullshit ! E40 has been making a grip in Oakland for 25 years ( he never gets radio play outside of that region ) The internet has become the biggest threat to the record industry in history simply because it provides a system of distribution that most small businesses can’t/ couldn’t afford . Im a fan of Chicago so when you mention Mikkey – LEP , etc.. I would love to see them all blow but what has to happen is exactly what LEP is doing consistently building there brand and fan base . if you have a brand you can sale (products) not just music – if you have fan they will support your music and your products …. with that being said there is no need for a middle man build your brand build your fans and stop depending on ( someone else) to save you !!!!

At the end of the day, if you do not have the internet, you have no clue who Mikkey, LEP etc are, Periiod! Fuck branding… LEP was out west and nobody new who they were! All those years of grinding dont mean shit! Chicago does not know the words to the songs, you will not hear their music at the club in Chicago, and they have no new material. Does anybody else see this? Ok, instead of mixtapes, why don’t these artists put their money up and make an LP? put a complete body of work together with no dj. obviously its not that easy… but a mixtape, shit, I could drop one next week if i wanted too. Everybody made a good point, but there is no ABC formula to this game. Lets just sit back and watch LEP within the next year. After Halloween, if all they contribute is features and more mixtapes, you tell me how productive/counter productive it is to making real money and having the whole Chicago/industry behind them.

What you all don’t KNOW is that LEP has real deal options and has had them for the last 6 months. The reason why you all dont understand the moves is because most of you dont have the type of resources that LEP has. If you are a rapper with a day job of course it wont make sense to you that LEP would not take a deal for $3-400,000… They have that type of bread…Why get raped for what you have already??? No matter where it comes from, the street or real estate their resources go far beyond the average artist. Get this correct People did know LEP and more specifically Moonie that were at the video shoot for Gucci its just that Gucci is waaaay more famous and NOT from here. Thats like saying nobody knows T-Mac cuz he’s in a room with Lebron James and nobody was chanting T-Mac. You wont hear alot of local cats music in chicago in ANY clubs cuz our DJ’s are whack as SHIT and all think they are A&R’s for their own Whack ass artists. Which also has everything to do with why nobody knows who the local stars are when they walk pass them on the street in Chicago. Lastly, Anyone that says “FUCK BRANDING” isnt that bright at all. Branding is business 101 and the key to longevity in ANY market. If you plan to make bread at any one thing for more than a season then branding is the ONLY way to do it.

How the fuck is Chief hating and he telling you the truth about the music business. See you fans confuse knowledge with hatin’. I’m from the Chi and I’m in the industry. The truth is I would love for LEP Bogus Boys to do it big and get on because that will help other Chicago artist get a good look. But you fans don’t know shit about business and so you automatically assume its hating. If I say LEP need to make a more creative song that appeals to the masses you fans would say I’m “hating”, when in actuality I’m showing love by being honest with them. There music is strictly for Chicago and the street niggas, if you want to make money from music you have to appeal to a more broad fanbase so I agree with chief although my reasons are different. Of course a lot of you on here are passionate about being a true fan, and thats cool but that doesn’t sell records. I think its cool that LEP gives out the mixtapes for free because that spreads the music around faster since its FREE but if your product doesn’t match up to something everybody can relate too then thats where it will remain in the streets. And I know damn well E not spending this money just so the streets can relate. They been had a buzz in the streets for over 5 years now. Its time to reach a more national level. They already proved themselves to the streets now its time to get about 3 commercial tracks so they can get that million dollar deal and prove themselves to the people with that real money. But let me guess, this is hating? Naw its not lames, its called business. Do you think Jay Z and Ye was worried about you calling them sellouts. Hell naw they got that money now. And I know LEP about that money so all you lames screaming hate can SHUT THE FUCK UP.

MTV2 is for the underdogs and local artists. Gucci and Waka Flocka are still not national. They will forever remain in a box. They will never have World Tours like Emenim or Jay-Z. I was with you up until “Gucci and Waka Flocka” arent national…That was a pretty uninformed statement. Then you follow it up with “They will never have World Tours like Emenim or Jay-Z” … World Tours = international if im not mistaken. Make up your mind. Not many artist in ANY genre will have that type of notoriety in their careers. Luda doesnt headline “world tours” like Jay or Em either. Is he not national???
Gucci will get mobbed in damn near any suburb in this country and its video documented. That nigga is very “national”. Anybody on 4 top 50 POP Billboard songs out at the same time like he was b4 he got locked up (2 of his own and featured on 2) is national.
I really wish you niggaz with no real music business background would just be fans and enjoy the damn video or song and stop with the “what they need to do is…” commentary.

Fact is there are only a few niggaz from Chi that have made any real national hip hop buzz in the popular market so what that says is that artist from here dont make what most people wanna hear YET or that our time (style wise) has passed and the artist from here must re-invent themselves.
Stop Monday or Tuesday morning quarterbackin and support what you like and spread the word as a FAN!!! If LEP never goes “national” will that affect if your kids go to college or some shit. NO! So dont worry so much about the shit!

White people don’t give 2 fucks bout no Gucci or Wacka. Ask any white person walking down the street on Michigan ave who Gucci is and they wont know. Now ask do they know who Jay Z or Snoop is and I bet they know. LEP is in the category with Gucci and ’em. If they do make, which I doubt since they are 30plus. The main reason is because he kills on Pop AND Rhythmic radio station spins. Go check nielson ratings cuz thats is how rec execs judge what category to put you in. If you even know what that is. 3. Fuck yo opinion.. Did you really just compare them to the wire??? What a fool! How dare you compare a classic to these half illiterate niggas. Thats blasphemy.
